TONIC Goal: Give shoes to 2,500 children in Haiti so they can walk to schools
Why We Chose This Project:
School can be a drag some days but imagine walking through rocky roads and trails just to get there. Friends of Paradis des Indiens gives shoes to children so that their feet don’t hurt - just their heads. These children need to be able to get to school so they can start learning.
The fishing village of Abricots is a small fishing village of 1,200 inhabitants in Haiti, one of the poorest countries in the world where about 90% of its people are illiterate. Paradis des Indiens is run by a husband and wife team who established a small primary school. Today there are nearly 2,500 students in Abricots and 11 mountain schools in the surrounding areas.
Children go to academic classes but can also learn manual skills in carpentry, sewing, embroidery, basket and hat weaving, agriculture and reforestation. TONIC has partnered with Friends of Paradis des Indiens to fortify coming generations in these villages to become self-sufficient.
Let's get them to school!
